ANSWER Project

Suffolk County had early aspirations to become the greenest county. At the heart of their plan was a wide and diverse communications plan that shouted best practice and enthused community and business involvement. This energy was spread through the Council teams quickly and shared with European partners. Free Rein provided the web and email channels to drive this vision alongside guidance in search and social media marketing.

The ANSWER Project, funded as an Interreg IVB project, was one of the early spin-offs that focused on energy reduction and efficiency, driving involvement through thought leadership, partnership working with EU colleagues and wider ranging briefs.

Their needs

All collaborative projects need a central hub to share information between the project team, out to the business community and on to the wider community. The central hub needed to store documentation to be shared far and wide, to act as a collaborative platform for the partners to share ideas, business cases and much more.

The hub needed to reach out through email, news feeds, and combined with search and social media work to spread the word and draw interested parties into the programme.

The solution needed to be economic, keeping the funding for direct work, and manageable by the team members themselves with no programming or special skills.

The solution

Free Rein had addressed a number of similar projects over the years and was a natural partner to Suffolk County Council in providing an integrated content managed website with email broadcast capability. The team were already familiar with the extensive set of tools in the system and its flexibility ensured Free Rein delivered exactly what the team needed rather than a generic system.

Result

The resultant website at www.answerproject.eu has since grown to encompass the European Green Building Network which, in May 2012, is being taken on by Suffolk Chamber of Commerce (also a Free Rein CMS user) in a joint arrangement with Suffolk County Council. The Free Rein CMS has extensive access and security controls that ensure each section of the site is safely ring-fenced to the team managing it without adding too many constraints through its moderation flows.
